They’re the kind of features we USED to get for free, but we’re in the age of enshittification, where everything either gets worse or costs money to keep from getting worse. Is this that? Probably, but it’s worth paying attention if you’re a business using social media to reach new customers and build your brand.
So what am I talking about? Well, Meta has launched a new subscription service for businesses across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp called Meta One. With clickable links in organic content, deeper analytics, and AI-powered customer service among the new features, we’ll look at what it means for your business.
For years, businesses have relied on Facebook and Instagram to connect with audiences, build awareness and promote their products and services.
While advertising has always been pay-to-play, publishing organic content and accessing the platforms’ core features have largely remained free, except on X.
Now, Meta is introducing a new layer of paid functionality and joining the fray.
Launched in September 2026, Meta One is a subscription service that offers additional capabilities across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta’s AI tools.
For businesses, some of these features could genuinely improve marketing performance. Others raise questions about the future cost of maintaining a competitive social media presence.
Here’s what you need to know.
What is Meta One?
Meta One is a collection of paid subscription plans designed for individuals, content creators and businesses.
The business plans add tools for content publishing, audience engagement, analytics, account management, and AI-powered customer service.
The standard Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp experiences remain free. Businesses can continue publishing content, engaging with followers and running advertising without a Meta One subscription.
However, paid tiers now offer certain advanced features.
The plans (In Australian dollars)
Meta has introduced four business subscription tiers
| Plan | Starting monthly price (AUD) |
| Essential | $22.99 |
| Advanced | $76.99 |
| Expert | $229 |
| Max | $769 |
Essential focuses on verification, account protection and customer engagement tools.
Advanced introduces more substantial publishing and analytics, including links in organic posts and Reels (probably the most obviously exciting feature).
Expert and Max offer higher feature limits and greater AI customer engagement capacity for businesses operating at scale, typically more appealing to companies managing large accounts across multiple countries.
As a newer product, pricing and available features vary by account, platform, and region, and some features are still invite-only.

Clickable links could change organic Instagram marketing
Perhaps the most interesting Meta One feature for marketers is the introduction of links in organic posts and Reels through the Advanced subscription.
Historically, one of Instagram’s biggest limitations for businesses has been the difficulty of directing users from organic content to an external website.
Businesses have relied on links in their profiles, Instagram Stories, direct messages and paid advertising to move audiences towards a purchase or enquiry.
Meta One introduces another potential pathway.
A retailer promoting a new product could link directly to its online store. A service business could direct viewers to a booking page. A professional services company could connect educational content to a relevant article or downloadable resource.
Why does it matter?
Reducing the steps between discovering content and taking action could improve organic social media’s commercial value.
It also creates opportunities for better measurement.
Trackable URLs could help businesses identify which organic posts drive website visits, enquiries, or conversions.
This could help shift organic social reporting beyond traditional engagement metrics such as likes, comments and followers.
Of course, clickable links don’t guarantee that people will use them.
Businesses will still need compelling content, relevant offers, and a clear reason for audiences to act.
More analytics and audience insights
The Meta One Advanced tier also introduces exportable analytics and deeper audience insights.
For businesses that invest in regular content production, understanding what performs well is essential.
Additional reporting capabilities could help businesses identify audience preferences, refine their content strategies and make better decisions about where to invest their resources.
These features could also connect social media activity more closely with broader marketing objectives.
For example, businesses may combine improved platform insights with website analytics to better understand how organic social contributes to customer acquisition.
However, the value of these features depends on what additional data is available and how easily it can integrate with existing reporting systems.
AI-powered customer engagement (if you’re into that sort of thing)
Everyone is adding new AI features everywhere these days, whether we like it or not, so Meta One is no exception.
Meta is expanding access to Meta Business Agent, its AI-powered customer engagement technology. The aim is to help businesses respond to customer enquiries and manage conversations through supported messaging channels, including WhatsApp.
We’re not a massive fan of AI for customer service and support, but if this is your jam, it could be worth considering, especially if the information is super simple.
We’d caution that automated customer service requires VERY careful implementation. Businesses need to ensure that responses are accurate, useful and consistent with their brand. They also need processes for escalating more complex or sensitive enquiries to a real person.
For businesses with substantial customer enquiry volumes, these tools may be worth investigating, but for our money, we’d encourage them to stick with real people at this stage.
Will businesses need to pay for organic visibility?
One of the bigger questions surrounding Meta One is what paid subscriptions mean for organic social media.
Meta is introducing features designed to help businesses “stand out and attract followers”, including enhanced profiles, more prominent follow buttons and automated invitations to people who engage with their content.
These features could make it easier for businesses to convert existing engagement into followers or customer actions.
But it’s worth being clear that this isn’t X. Paying for Meta One does not guarantee that organic posts will reach more people.
For now, no conclusive evidence shows that non-subscribing businesses experience reduced organic reach simply because they haven’t purchased a subscription.
Our concern is more around the direction the platform is heading.
As new marketing features move into paid tiers, businesses may increasingly need to consider subscription costs alongside their existing investments in content creation and advertising.
For now, at least, the practical approach is to assess each feature by how well it contributes to business objectives.
So, should your business subscribe to Meta One?
For most businesses, the Advanced tier is likely the best starting point because of its publishing and analytics features; however, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend subscribing simply because the functionality is new.
As always with any new tactical product, look to your business and marketing objectives to see whether these new features will help. Consider:
- Your marketing objectives: Are you trying to increase awareness, generate enquiries, drive website traffic or grow sales?
- Your existing social media performance: Are audiences already engaging with your content and taking action?
- Your content strategy: Would clickable links create meaningful opportunities to connect content with products, services or campaigns?
- Your reporting requirements: Would additional analytics help you make better marketing decisions?
- Your existing marketing budget: Could the subscription deliver more value than investing the same amount in content or advertising?
For businesses with established organic audiences and clear conversion opportunities, the Advanced tier could be worth testing.
A 2-3 month trial with clear objectives and performance measures would provide a useful basis for deciding whether to continue.
